On February 26 Google announced in an official statement that starting from 21st April, mobile friendliness will be a ranking signal. The change will have an impact on mobile searches worldwide and will have a significant impact on their search results.
“…Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”
This is the first time that the search engine giant has announced an update 2 months in advance of it being rolled out and advised that it will have a significant impact.
So now we know for sure that responsiveness is going to be a factor in search results and mobile SEO is now mainstream, it’s time to run your URL through Googles mobile-friendly test and see if you’re website is friend or foe come the 21st April!
