Pop-up ‘Digital Garage’ Now Open…
Newcastle is making quite the name for itself on the science and technology scene – 2014 saw the opening of the £11.2million centre which still aims to support companies in the very same sectors – and this fact hasn’t gone unnoticed by the biggest names, Google being one of them. Yes, San Francisco has officially come to Newcastle, and whilst the weather may be a little more temperamental, the talent available locally is ready and waiting to be nurtured!
Google has opened a pop-up ‘Digital Garage’ to help those interested in all things technology develop their skills – for free.
What to expect
The garage delivers free digital skills training courtesy of a team of experienced and Google approved digital teachers. As well as running a range of specialist workshops and events, including charity events, computer science classes and other activities, one-to-one mentoring and training is also available. In addition to this, support is accessible to local businesses, from start-up companies to established market leaders, looking to expand digitally, improve their web presence, reach new consumers and tap into market insights. The Digital Garage has been designed and developed to assist people from all walks of life, including graduates, students and entrepreneurs, looking to enter or grow within the online world and ultimately improve their employability.
These digital teachers will be going out into the community too, and a number of visits to districts throughout the Newcastle area have been earmarked, where tutors will be performing their training and mentoring magic.
Where to find it
The Digital Garage is now open, and can be visited five days a week right up until the end of July 2016. The Google garage is based in Newcastle City Library, and encourages all to come along for help, advice and support. As we mentioned, a number of activities are being run from the Digital Garage, so as well as joining Google for a training masterclass you can also enjoy seminars, workshops and events across all digital subjects.
