I heart Google – Part 1
I Love Google
Successful SEO, like successful business and success in life in general, has much to do with doing the right thing. Good is good, so if you go about your business reciprocating kindness, being fair, being generous and sharing the love then chances are that you will walk on the bright side of the road. This is especially the case when it comes to the search engines, and evolving a strong, sustainable and above all profitable online profile.
Knowing what Google appreciates and admires in a website is a great starting point. Here are just three simple aspects of your SEO that you might want to pay particularly close attention to in order to make sure that you’re not only on Google’s right side, but that Google even starts to hand out a little preferential treatment in your direction.
Google likes it fresh
If your website is set in aspic, a monument to a time past, an online brochure untended, unloved and collecting virtual dust – then your SEO is going to suffer. Keep it fresh and keep it up to date for the best SEO results. Liven up your home page with information fed from a regularly updated blog. The more ‘alive’ you appear the more relevant you are and the more attention Google with give you.
The social web matters
Social search is a big deal these days, with social activity now populating the universal search pages. Don’t stand on the sidelines just watching – join the game. Get Twitter active, Tweet, Retweet and evolve a following. As well as all the potential profile benefits inherent in social media there’s the added benefit of enhanced SEO positioning, because social media credibility counts.
Link for love
A link-rich profile is great for SEO. Lots of inbound links from healthy happy sites that enjoy strong page ranking is a cast iron way of Google taking you seriously. Manual link building should be at the heart of your SEO efforts – each link is an endorsement of your quality. It’s not just inbound links that contribute to improved SEO either. Your generosity in handing out links is also rewarded, as is internal linking.
There are plenty of other things you can do to woo Google. We’ll take a look at some more in the next post. In the meantime if you want to discuss your SEO and especially proven techniques that you can deploy to boost your online visibility, then be sure to talk with your SEO team.
